January Update

Dear Family and Friends,

Since returning home from vacation, the weather in our small city of Pierrevert has been cold and very different from what one would normally expect near the French Rivierra. For the second year in a row, it snowed several inches. While this would hardly be newsworthy in Utah or New Mexico, here where people are unaccustomed to inclement weather, snow has a tendancy to bring things to a full stop.

Not wanting to take too many chances on the roads, we have spent the last couple of Saturdays at home relaxing. Joe got out his Wii Guitar Hero game and let the kids each have their own jam sessions. Nathaniel was very serious while playing "On the Road Again". Nicolas finished his Star Wars game in a matter of hours with the help of his friend Whit from South Carolina.

The kids also enjoyed being able to play outside in the snow for a change and built snow cities in the driveway, which sadly Joe ran over with the car.

At work, Joe was invited to attend a special meeting with the Prince of Monaco, Prince Albert II, who had come to check on the progress of ITER. Joe was impressed by the Prince's down-to-earth, quiet nature and was surprised that the Prince spoke American English even though Joe knew that his mother was Grace Kelly and that the Prince had spent time in the States.

Following the meeting, the Prince's entourage quickly escorted him to his helicopter for the flight back to Monaco.

Last night, the International School held a production in the various languages of the school. Nicolas and Elyse's classes sang Beatles songs that represented English culture. There was also Russian poetry reading, a play in German, and traditioinal Korean, Japanese and Indian dancing. Other than being almost three hours, it was fun to watch such a multicultural event.

Bonne Semain (Have a good week)!

Joe, Julie, Nicolas, Elyse, and Nathaniel
