Dear Family and Friends,
Saturday, Nicolas and Joe went Kayaking in the Calanques, or French fjords, near the sea-side village of Cassis with friends from work. They were very fortunate that the weather was good because the previous week was filled with rain and wind. The seas within the Calanques were very calm, but once they got out into the open water they were reminded why they call it sea kayaking instead of canoeing. That provided Joe with a enough exercise that by the time he came home he was wiped out. Below are a few pictures from their trip.

Nicolas took the front seat and did a very good job rowing, even when the seas were rough. The week he spent doing water sports at scout camp the prior week really helped build his confidence.
Friends Matt and Weston did a good job exploring all of the crevices in the rocks.
They also found a nice cliff off which to jump.
By the middle of the day, the tour boats started to arrive. We also had to share to sea with many other types of boats, including large sailing ships, yachts, and small boats.
Nicolas and Joe spotted some other kayakers waiting to enter a cave. Once they left, Joe and Nicolas maneuvered their kayak through the narrow opening and into the open cavern.
Inside the cave, they found the water very tranquille. The sun also illuminated the water so that it seemed to glow in the dark cave. In fact, it was so peaceful and cool that it was hard to leave.
Bonne Semaine,
Joe, Julie, Nicolas, Elyse, and Nathaniel
