Dear Family and Friends,

Every year at this time, the village of Manosque hosts a "fete" or festival to celebrate literature. They host lectures by modern writers and other activities to promote writing. The part that the kids enjoy is the opportunity to send letters for free all over the world.

While weren't able to write many letters, the kids did manage to send off a few quick notes. Elyse prepared her correspondance in this "Ecritoire" shaped like a French mailbox. There were other "Ecritoires" throughout the old town shaped like books, globes, etc.

During the week, the kids have all they can handle with homework. Nicolas, for example, usually has to study from the time he gets home until he goes to bed. One day, our neighborhood cat, Bol-Bol, was sitting outside our kitchen window waiting for the kids to come out and play. Nathaniel decided to go out and have a one-on-one talk with the cat to explain why they needed to do their devoirs (homework). When Julie asked Nathaniel if Bol-Bol got the point, he said sincerely "yes, but I told him about the letters and I don't think he understood that part."

On Saturday, we stayed home and had a relaxing day watching college football online. In the evening, we took a short drive up to the mountains above Manosque to go on a hike to an old chateau. Fortunately, the weather was very mild and we had a nice walk--that is except for the pine-cone grenades that Nicolas and Elyse kept launching.

Bonne Semaine,

Joe, Julie, Nicolas, Elyse, and Nathaniel
